Get to Know The FAFSA

The basic application used to apply for financial aid at any school in the nation is called the FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This application is the first step used to apply for federal, state, and institutional sources of financial aid.

Students seeking financial aid are encouraged to begin the process early. Follow these steps to get started:

Step 1: Apply for a Federal Student Aid ID.

Step 2: Complete and submit your FAFSA.
USV's school ID number is: 001177.

Step 3: Allow 3–5 days for your application to be processed. You will receive a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR), review your SAR for accuracy and then contact USV to walk you through your FAFSA results.

General Eligibility Requirements

While attending USV, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to receive their financial aid. Students who are suspended from a program of study or terminated from USV are ineligible for financial aid until they regain admission and comply with academic requirements.

Eligibility for federal financial aid programs requires that a student be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. If you are a prospective international student, visit the International section in admissions for details on your enrollment process. The additional following requirements must also be met:

  1. You demonstrate financial need
  2. You are not in default on any student loan and do not owe repayment on a Federal Pell Grant received at another institution of higher education
  3. You have a high school diploma, GED certificate
  4. If you are male, you are registered with the Selective Service
