About Astrid Chevallier
Academic Leadership
Astrid is an accomplished Creative Director, Art Director, Designer, and multidisciplinary fine artist with over 30 years of professional experience in the U.S. and France. Her career bridges, visual storytelling, branding, key art, illustration, motion graphics, UI/UX design, environmental art, and includes emerging tools. She is known for translating complex ideas into clear, emotionally resonant visual narratives that balance artistic depth, technical fluency, and strategic clarity.
Astrid has contributed to high-profile film, entertainment, and cultural projects, including War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg) The Aviator (Martin Scorsese), as well as numerous independent productions. She has collaborated with studios, agencies, cultural institutions, and startup ventures across B2B and B2C environments, and has served as a judge for the Hollywood Key Art Awards.
For more than two decades, Astrid has led her design studio, Purple Red, where she has created branding systems, key art, digital experiences, and multimedia assets from concept to final delivery. Classically trained in fine arts in France and California, her work has been exhibited internationally and recognized with multiple national and international awards.
As an educator and leader, Astrid is deeply committed to student growth and industry relevance. She has taught intensive design programs, developed learning platforms, produced training content, and mentored designers and early-stage founders. Her bilingual, multicultural background and global experience align with USV’s interdisciplinary, industry-facing, and Polymathic™ approach to education.
